Frequently Asked Questions
Clear, honest answers about staying connected in Pakistan without PTA headaches.
PTA & Legality in Pakistan
What is DIRBS and why does PTA block imported phones?
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) uses DIRBS to identify imported phones that use local Pakistani physical SIM cards (e.g. local prepaid SIM cards). By law, phones that do not pay PTA registration taxes are blocked on local physical networks after 60 days of use.
How does SimYaar bypass this 60-day block?
SimYaar operates on international roaming profiles. When your phone uses an international roaming eSIM, it connects as a foreign visiting subscriber roaming on Jazz 4G LTE towers. PTA regulations exempt international roaming profiles from local device registration taxes, meaning your phone stays connected with zero risk of DIRBS blocking!
Is using a travel eSIM legal in Pakistan?
Yes, completely legal. International roaming is an internationally recognized telecom service governed by GSMA standards and bilateral carrier roaming pacts.
Do I have to submit my CNIC, passport, or biometric fingerprint?
No! Unlike local Pakistani physical SIMs which require biometric thumb verification at local telecom franchises, SimYaar is an international travel eSIM. We only require your name, email for QR delivery, and WhatsApp number for order support.
Phone Compatibility & Setup
How do I know if my phone can use SimYaar?
Your phone must have built-in eSIM hardware and be carrier-unlocked. Most iPhones from iPhone XS onwards, Samsung Galaxy S20 onwards, and Google Pixel 3 onwards support eSIM. You can dial *#06# on your phone: if you see a 32-digit EID number, your phone supports eSIM!
When should I install the eSIM?
You can install the eSIM before your flight or upon arrival at the airport using airport Wi-Fi. We recommend scanning the QR code before you board your flight to Pakistan so that when your plane touches down, you simply turn your mobile data ON and connect immediately.
When does my validity period start?
Your package validity (e.g. 7, 15, or 30 days) only begins when the eSIM connects to a cellular network inside Pakistan for the first time. Installing the eSIM while outside Pakistan does NOT consume your days.
Do I need to turn Data Roaming ON?
Yes! Because SimYaar is a travel roaming profile, you MUST go to Settings > Cellular > select SimYaar line > turn 'Data Roaming' ON. (Make sure your home physical SIM's roaming is turned OFF to prevent unwanted charges from your home country provider).
Calling, WhatsApp & Hotspot
Will my WhatsApp work on my original number?
Yes! When installing the eSIM, your phone will ask whether you want to update your WhatsApp number. Choose 'Keep Existing Number'. All your chats, groups, and contact lists will remain completely unchanged.
Can I make standard cellular phone calls or send SMS?
SimYaar eSIMs are high-speed mobile data passes (data-only). They do not come with an analog local telephone number for traditional phone calls. You can make unlimited voice and video calls through WhatsApp, FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, or Telegram.
Can I use my phone as a personal hotspot / Wi-Fi tether?
Yes! Personal hotspot and tethering are 100% enabled on all SimYaar plans at no extra charge. You can share your data connection with your laptop, iPad, or travel companions.
Payment & Manual Confirmation
How do I pay?
We currently accept payments via JazzCash QR Code and direct Bank Transfer (Raast / IBFT) to Meezan Bank. During checkout, account and QR details are displayed, and you upload a screenshot of the payment receipt.
How long does it take to receive my eSIM after paying?
Our finance team reviews manual transfer screenshots round-the-clock. Once confirmed (typically within 1 to 2 hours), your eSIM profile and QR code are automatically issued and emailed to your inbox.
